Our Mission

 The CSBGA was founded in 1974, and as a professional trade organization, we have worked through the years to encourage School Facilities Directors, Custodial & Maintenance Supervisors, School Business Officials and suppliers to work together respectfully and professionally, developing a proud tradition in the process.  You can depend on the CSBGA to help build and strengthen your future.

Our Goals

  • To promote the general welfare of School Supervisors of Buildings and Grounds, their Assistants, and other management personnel to maintain a high standard of professional ethics.
  • To elevate the individual members through training and study to best serve their community.
  • To promote a spirit of fellowship among members to exchange technical information and data for the betterment of educational facilities.

  •  To define the educational facilities for the public so that there may be a better understanding of function and operation.
  • To cooperate with the State Department of Education and other governmental agencies to keep abreast of educational and technical trends, regulations and mandates pertaining to health, safety and welfare of students and educational personnel.

FACILITY MANAGER

  

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Performs responsible building and grounds management and maintenance work involving the upkeep, repair, renovation, and construction of all Town buildings, athletic fields, outdoor recreational areas and aquatics facilities.

  • Work involves the supervision of staff, overseeing contractors, and managing energy costs. Duties include planning, organizing, and prioritizing work. This employee has the responsibility of making difficult technical decisions involving troubleshooting, maintenance and operational problems. The work requires that the employee have considerable knowledge, skill and ability in all phases of public building and grounds maintenance and operation. Responds to building and or grounds emergencies on a 24/7 basis.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans and directs the work activities and objectives of a work group, including Custodians, Tradesmen, Building Maintainers, carpenters and laborers in maintaining all Town buildings, parks and athletic fields. Establishes priorities to meet preventive maintenance schedules, cleaning schedules, renovation projects, athletic field and parks maintenance and seasonal or emergency needs.
  • Oversees in-house staff and subcontractors in performing technical maintenance, repair, and renovations on Town facilities. Establishes standard contracts with vendors and evaluates their performance.
  • Gathers and analyzes information, determines recommendations, and prepares reports. Determines operating procedures and recommends operating policies. Develops maintenance and improvement plans to systematically improve operations and facilities.
  • Counsels employees and provides training. Administers union contract language and takes minor disciplinary measures. Recommends applicants for hiring. Assures safe work practices. Evaluates employee performance.
  • Troubleshoots mechanical and operational problems. Supervises electrical, plumbing, and HVAC construction and major repairs. Estimates costs and develops detailed project plans and specifications.
  • Develops plans for building renovations, such as new office space. Inventories the space usage by each department and monitors space needs. Monitors the Town's use of energy for heating, cooling and electricity and recommends measures for cost reduction. Develops annual budget recommendations, including capital improvements to Town buildings. Overseas and monitors budget expenditures.
  • Manages and oversees all building systems, such as heating, cooling, circulation, and electrical system. Responds to emergencies.

West Hartford Public Schools

HVAC TECHNICIAN - 1ST SHIFT


 West Hartford Public Schools seeks to fill a position for a full-time HVAC II at Plant & Facilities Services. This is a 12-month position, Monday - Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm. Reports to the HVAC Foreman & Manager of Maintenance Services or Designee.

Job Description: 
This is skilled work at the journeyman level in HVAC. Work involves responsibility for the performance of assignments requiring the use of HVAC skills in the maintenance and operation of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems for school buildings and related facilities. Assignments designated in form requests for services from various schools and/or in form of blueprints and specifications. Occasional supervision required for one or more helpers. Work is subject to review for inspection upon completion, although normal repairs are completed independently without supervision or close review. Work performed in various settings subject to some interruptions and background noise. Work performed with independence and initiative, referring unusual problems to the Manager of Maintenance Services or designee. Performs varied and responsible functions requiring judgment to ensure compliance with applicable departmental and BOE/town policies, procedures and methods. Manages and coordinates multiple priorities adhering to established periods. Has frequent contact with employees, other BOE/town departments, and vendors. Possible exposure to smells and sounds associated with sewer and water systems and use of power tools and construction sites.

East Lyme Public Schools

SCHOOL FACILITIES MANAGER


The Facilities Manager supervises and directs the Department’s maintenance personnel, including two general maintenance staff, two full-time groundskeepers, and various seasonal and substitute staff. The Facilities Manager serves as second-line supervisor, after the school principals, and technical authority for custodial staff, which includes five head custodians and 23 building custodians. Basic responsibilities include execution and continuous improvement of the District’s preventive maintenance program, coordinating prompt response and resolution of unplanned corrective maintenance requests and repairs, overseeing external contractors/vendors engaged in preventive maintenance or repair work; developing and managing the non-capital maintenance and repair funds and activities; and ensuring custodial services are delivered in a manner consistent with district and prevailing professional standards. Incumbent is considered essential personnel and must be able to respond to emergencies and during inclement weather.


The position would generally require 5-7 years of facilities management experience in an education or multi-building campus like environment, or a Bachelor’s degree in facilities management, engineering, or related academic program with 3-5 years of experience in a closely related profession; aptitude and understanding in the areas of plumbing, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC), carpentry, refrigeration, electricity, mechanics, construction, athletics fields, and groundskeeping; excellent communication, human relations, supervisory, and management skills; and a valid Connecticut Driver’s License.    


Certified Facility Manager (CFM) preferred.  Trade licensure, such as electrician or HVAC technician, would be considered beneficial.

FACILITIES AND SECURITY SUPERVISOR


The District Facilities and Security Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, safety, and security of approximately 700,000 square feet of building space and outdoor facilities across the school district.  This role includes managing a team of seven head custodians and ten armed security officers to ensure a safe, clean, and well-maintained, secure environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Specific Terms of Employment:

  • 12 Month Full Time Position
  • Salary and other benefits established per individual contract with the Board of Education.  
  • Regionally competitive salary based on experience and qualifications (minimum starting $110K).
